NORTHERN COAST BEACHES

The green of the Corfian hills contrasts with the deep blue clean waters of its beaches and coves, such as Sidari, Arilas and Agios Georgios..
Corfu's most famous beach must be Sidari. It was settled in Neolithic times and has developed into a popular holiday destination over the last thirty years. Sidari's unusual rock formations and its caves and tunnels have been created by the erosion on the sandstone headlands.

A legend says that if couples swim through the Canal d" Amour together, they will stay together forever.

Agios Georgios has one of the longest sandy coasts in Corfu. The locals believe that in the north section of the beach, Armikes, lies the lost city of Alkinoos. It was destroyed in a massive earthquake, with mountains splitting in half and burying the city. Then the sea level rose and covered it all. The locals say you can still see rocks with flat surfaces under water.
