TYPES OF TRADITIONAL TRANSPORT

Here we go back many centuries of tradition when mules were used to carry the washing from the river. The donkeys and horses are still used today, they carry firewood, olive bags, food or their owners.

There are no carriages in use any more other than in Corfu town for tourist excursions. Motorbikes are used all year round even when it is snowing. Thousands of them have a windscreen on the steering wheel. Sometimes bikes are the only way you can get through the heavy traffic. No one wears helmets when they ride bikes, and often you see three people riding one small bike. Police ignores this. Then again you hardly see any police.

There are many types of bikes including a three-wheeled vehicle with a truck body on the back. Another transport vehicle is the small tractor: what you see is two wheels with a noisy motor in-between and two pipes coming out of them used to steer it. They pull a trailer. The driver, people or goods stay on the trailer. The new model now has power on the trailer axle. That is our 4 wheel drive version.
