ANCIENT GREEK CIVILIZATION
Ancient
Greeks were forerunners of many aspects of today's civilisation. While the Babylonians
thought of stars as something divine, Greeks turned it into science. Thalis studied
them and used the knowledge for navigation purposes He measured the hight of pyramids
by simply waiting for his shadow to reach his height measurement and then he measured
the shadow of the pyramid at the same time, which was obviously equal to the shadow
of a pyramid . Another ancient Greek, Phythagoras worked out that earth is not
flat but round.
Then they pioneered biology, zoology, politics, philosophy, the arts, theatre,
medicine, and explored the empires of thought with Socrates being the originator.
The Athenians created a powerful state with the innovative ruling system of democracy
which has been adopted by many of today's great nations. They also invented water
pumps, steam engines and a unique technology in building. Many of their monuments
survived till today to be admired and marvelled by many visitors. Later Alexander
the Great and the Romans copied and spread this civilization around the world.
